Escambia County fought to the bitter end, but came up short 13-6 to sixth-ranked Mobile Christian tonight in region action at Hubert Barnes Field in Atmore.

The Blue Devils put together a solid fourth-quarter drive after getting the ball back on a turnover, reaching the red zone with more than 3 minutes to go.

ECHS tried three pass plays, but each fell incomplete.

Blue Devils head football coach Vincent Harris said the boys fought to the bitter end.

“You’ve got to find a way to put it all together,” Harris said. “We competed (well) with the No. 6 team in the state until the bitter end. I’m proud of the effort. We’ve got to finish some games. That’s my big thing.”

The Blue Devils fall to 1-3 overall, and 0-2 in Class 4A, Region 1. ECHS visits St. Michael on Sept. 20.

Escambia County’s Tai Henderson scored the only touchdown for the Blue Devils on the ground.

Harris said he was proud of how the boys played, given their recent 30-point loss to Jackson last week.

“To turn around and play the No. 6 team as tough as we did, I’m proud of the effort,” he said. “This is a results-driven business. We’ve got to close the deal.”
