Escambia County head football coach Vincent Harris said all of the credit in Friday’s 14-0 victory over Northview, Fla. goes to God.

Harris said the effort from the players stood out during the victory.

“The defense did a heck of a job with the shutout,” Harris said. “I’m proud of the team after losing three straight (to Jackson, Mobile Christian and St. Michael). It’s amazing to get a win.”

The Blue Devils led 7-0 with more than 7 minutes to go in the contest.

Escambia County’s Ronald Jackson III then rushed the ball in for a 3-yard score with 5:17 left to go for a wide advantage.

Harris said Tai Henderson ran a touchdown from 50 yards out for the Blue Devils’ first score of the night.

Harris said the win was a big boost as the team heads into the second half of the season.

ECHS visits Orange Beach Oct. 4 and W.S. Neal Oct. 11; hosts Satsuma on Oct. 18; hosts Hillcrest-Evergreen Oct. 25; and is open on Nov. 1.

“We’ve got to win the next three to get in the playoffs,” Harris said. “I’m proud of the way they have stayed together. We’ve got to keep fighting. All of the glory goes to God.”

With the loss, the Chiefs fall to 2-4 on the season.

NHS head football coach Wes Summerford said it was a disappointing loss.

“I think we had them most of the game, and we needed one more stop to hold them up, and it just didn’t happen,” Summerford said. “I think our kids fought hard to a certain point. I don’t think we came out at all in the second half.”

Summerford said some an area the team will focus on improving includes having heart the rest of the way.

“That’s what we made a staple on here at Northview,” the coach said about heart. “We’ve got to have heart. We’ve got to have toughness. It’s in them. It’s my job to get it out of them. That’s something we’re going to have to work on. No doubt. That’s something we’ll talk about next week, and get it out of them on the practice field next week.”
