“Our kids needed it,” Vickery said.

With the victory, FHS improves to 3-3 overall, and 0-3 in Class 3A, Region 1.

Vickery said during last week’s Bayside Academy loss (14-0), the defense didn’t play well, but the boys turned it around this week.

“Tonight, I thought we played really well, and did some good things,” he said.

For the night, the Hurricanes had 342 rushing yards as a team.

“That was a good night,” the coach said.

Flomaton’s Zay French had 15 carries for 11 yards.

Defensively, Ian White led the team in tackles with six.

Vickery said the team jumped out quick on the Royals, but JHS bounced back.

“They kept making some plays,” he said.

Flomaton led 18-3 at halftime.

Vickery said this win is a good momentum boost going into the second half of the season. FHS hosts Monroe County Oct. 4 in region play; has a bye week on Oct. 11; visits Hillcrest-Evergreen Oct. 18 in region play; hosts Cottage Hill Oct. 25 in region play; and visits Northview, Fla. in the finale of the regular season.

“It’s something we needed,” Vickery said. “When you win like that. The kids have been doing a really good job, and you have rewards for their hards work. I was just pleased with that.”
