Atmore man arrested today on attempted murder charge in shooting of another over weekend

An Atmore man was arrested today on an attempted murder charge for the alleged shooting of another over the weekend, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Edwards La’Marlon Jaheim Williams, 23, was taken into custody today at 1:35 p.m. by APD officers at a residence. He was charged with attempted murder and was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center.
McMann said at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Sept. 28, APD officers responded to Atmore Community Hospital in reference to a gunshot victim transported by private vehicle.
“The the victim was shot in the parking lot of Mike and Ike Food Mart on Carver Avenue during a physical altercation,” McMann said.
McMann said the victim was flown by helicopter to a trauma center, and as of the morning of Sept. 30, the victim is in critical condition in an intensive care unit.
McMann said APD investigators positively identified Williams as the suspect.
McMann said investigators will continue gathering evidence of the incident.
