A Creola man was arrested Sept. 29 on possession of drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Melvin Johnson, 48, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said at approximately 11 p.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 21 in reference to observing the vehicle driven in a careless manner. The officer then made contact with the driver, Johnson.
“During the officers interaction with Johnson, the officer became suspicious of his behavior and requested a K-9 officer respond,” McMann said. “Once deployed, the K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics on the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, buprenorphine/naloxone pills and other items that are used to ingest narcotics.”
Johnson was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
