In honor of Native American Heritage Month this November, the Poarch Creek Indians will launch an educational blog series that highlights key aspects of their culture and history.

Beginning this month, the Tribe will feature a new blog on their newly redesigned website, covering a variety of topics important to Native American heritage and the future of their community.

The blog series will explore four themes:

 

• Land Sovereignty: Delving into the historical and ongoing significance of land sovereignty for the Tribe, this blog will focus on how the Poarch Creek Indians have navigated issues related to land rights and self-governance.

 

• Environmental Stewardship through Recycling and Conservation: This post will highlight the Tribe’s efforts to preserve and protect natural resources through sustainable practices, emphasizing their commitment to recycling and environmental conservation.

 

• Opportunity for Our Tribe and Our Neighbors: Focusing on how the Tribe creates opportunities for both its members and the wider community, this blog will reflect on the Tribe’s work to foster economic growth, job creation, and charitable giving.

 

• Historical Preservation: This entry will discuss the Tribe’s dedication to preserving their cultural history through events like the annual Pow Wow and the Poarch Creek Museum, ensuring that future generations understand and appreciate their heritage.

Bryan, Poarch Creek Indians Tribal Chair and CEO. “By highlighting issues like land sovereignty and environmental stewardship, we hope to educate our neighbors while also celebrating our own cultural history.”

The Poarch Creek Indians invites all to visit its website each Monday in November to learn more about the topics. They also ask the public to join them at the annual Thanksgiving Pow Wow Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.
