The Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department held its 55th annual Fish Fry today at the fire station.

Fried and grilled fish, grilled chicken, hush puppies, cole slaw, rolls, baked beans and desserts were served. Some 750 plates were sold at the event, officials said.

Additionally, those who bought a plate were entered into a ticket drawing for gifts.

Susie Davis was named the Firefighter of the Year; and Andrew Peters was named the Officer of the Year.

The Ruritan Club received the community service award.
