Marie Horn Smith, 86, of Hurtsboro, passed away after a long illness on Sun., Nov. 10, 2024.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1938 to the late Ethel and Miles Horn of Wawbeek.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Adkinson Horn and Leslie Miles Horn of Wawbeek; and her grandson, Will Hitchcock.

She is survived by her husband, D. Max Smith of Hurtsboro; her daughter, Anita Marie (Paul) Hitchcock of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; her grandchildren, Mary Miles (Shane) Banachowski of Greensboro, N.C., Jack Hitchcock of Washington, D.C. and Kate Hitchcock of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandson, Cooper Daniel Banachowski of Greensboro; twin sister, Mary (Suthern) Sims of Macon, Ga.; her younger sister, Claire (Joe) Webb of Fairhope; nieces and nephews, Suzanne Sims of Wilmington, N.C., David Sims of Macon, Jennifer (Mark) Jones of Bald Head Island, N.C., Joey (Michelle) Webb of Loxley and Connie (Mike) Weaver of Aiken, S.C.; brother in law, Mike (Janice) Smith of Dugout, Brian (Rita) Smith of Port St. Joe, Fla. and Ben (Becca) Smith of Atmore; and many more great nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service for the family was held at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Wawbeek on Nov. 16, 2024 with the Rev. Tim Hawsey officiating. Interment followed in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
