Alabama death row inmate Carey D. Grayson was executed by nitrogen hypoxia Thursday night at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility just outside Atmore, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

According to a release, Grayson was pronounced deceased by a physician at 6:33 p.m.

A day prior to his execution, Grayson had 11 visitors, and made three phone calls. On the day of his execution, Grayson had three visitors, made two phone calls, refused his breakfast and lunch trays and requested soft tacos, beef burritos, tostada, chips, guacamole and Mountain Dew Blast for his final meal, according to officials.

Grayson was sentenced to death for the 1996 capital murder of Vickie De Blieux in Jefferson County.

The inmate’s remains will be released to the Escambia County Coroner and transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (Mobile Lab) for a postmortem examination .
