Fifth graders at Rachel Patterson Elementary School received a special treat on Thursday.

Social Studies Teacher Mrs. C (Sheena Carach) treated the students to a Thanksgiving feast.

“This month is Native American (History) month, and the students spent the month learning about different tribes, their cultures and how the Europeans treated and interacted with them,” Carach said in a release. “All of the students wrote letters to tribes across the nation, asking questions about their culture, traditions, etc.”

Carach added that the students also attended a viewing of “The Forgotten Creeks” at the Strand Theatre.

Carach said while the students have been learning about the first Thanksgiving, they’ve also been learning about the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

To show appreciation for the students, Carach coordinated with local businesses and her family to secure donations, and sponsorships, which would allow her to host the Thanksgiving feast for all 80 of her students, according to a release.

Additionally, the Poarch Creek Indians held a demonstration for the students the morning prior to the feast.

Carach said the local businesses and individuals that helped included Hawt Mess Boutique, PHD Realty, Baldwin Gulf Coast Pest Control, David’s Catfish House, Popeyes, Ramey’s, PCI, Gloria’s Creations, Nett’s Kitchen and the Carach Family.
