Atmore man arrested on attempted murder charge

An Atmore man was arrested Dec. 6 on an attempted murder charge, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Gelonté Giles, 31, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
McMann said at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Friday, APD officers responded to an apartment in Point Escambia Apartments in reference to a subject who had been shot.
“The responding officers arrived on the scene and found a male suffering from gunshot wounds,” McMann said. “The victim was transported to Atmore Community Hospital, and then flown to a trauma center.”
McMann said officders on scene were able to identify the suspect Giles, later locating him and taking him into custody.
Giles was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
