A Bay Minette man was arrested Dec. 6 on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Public Information Officer said in a release that Joseph Hayles, 28, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said on Dec. 6 at approximately 7:30 a.m., APD officers responded to Walmart in reference to a possible drunk driver in the parking lot.
“One of the responding officers observed the vehicle that was described by the caller leaving Walmart, and turning onto North Main Street,” McMann said. “The officer followed the vehicle to observe the driving pattern, and the officer noted the driver did not seem to be under the influence, however.”
McMann added the vehicle’s license plate had been expired for three years. He said the officer made a traffic stop and contacted Hayles.
“Hayles stepped out of the vehicle, and the officer observed a small plastic baggie containing over 2 grams of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said. “The officer removed the used hypodermic needle with methamphetamine residue.”
Hayles was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
