Fountain Correctional Facility visitor arrested on promoting prison contraband, drug charges

A woman visiting an inmate was arrested Dec. 7 on promoting prison contraband and attempting to commit a controlled substance crime charges, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Public Information Specialist Angela Beck said in a release that Valerie Douglas, has been charged with promoting prison contraband, prohibited activities and attempting to commit a controlled substance crime.
Beck said on the day of the arrest, agents from the ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division K-9 personnel at Fountain Correctional Facility observed a visitor, identified as Douglas, allegedly passing an object to an inmate.
“A subsequent search of the inmate resulted in the confiscation of a small package wrapped in clear tape,” Beck said. “The package contained 30 oxycontin pills (10 milligrams each), 20 xanax pills (2 milligrams each), 5 percocet pills (10 milligrams each), a cell phone and a cell phone charger.”
Douglas, who was the mother of the inmate, detained and later arrested.
The investigation remains ongoing and further charges may be pending, Beck said.
