Escambia County Schools announced Dec. 18 the launch of new digital reading resources for students in grades K-8 and families with children from birth to age 5.
According to a release, the resources are provided through Renaissance by MyON, and will help enhance literacy development and foster a love for reading among the youngest learners of the system.
A breakdown for students in grades K-8 and for families with children birth to age 5 is below:
For students in grades K-8:
Students in grades K-8 have free access to MyON, a digital library with more than 8,500 books across various genres and interests. MyON offers MyON News, which provides age-appropriate and engaging current event articles tailored to students’ reading levels. The tools are designed to encourage independent reading and keep students informed about the world around them in a way they can understand.
For families with children birth to age 5:
Parents in the community can now access 1,776 books to read with their young children at no cost. The initiative aims to build foundational reading skills, promote bonding through shared reading and ensure every child is ready for school success, according to a release.
ECSS officials said parents can access MyON by going to https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/78931. The login name is myon, and the password is abc.
Superintendent Dr. Michele W. Collier said the district is committed to literacy.
“These digital tools represent a significant step in ensuring that every child in Escambia County has the opportunity to grow as a reader, from their earliest years through middle school,” Collier said in a release.
