Atmore woman arrested Dec. 23 on DUI, drug possession, chemical endangerment of a child charges

An Atmore woman was arrested Dec. 23 on driving under the influence, drug possession and chemical endangerment of a child charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Brandy Gregson, 34, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, chemical endangerment of a child and causing the delinquency, dependency or need of supervision of children.

McMann said on the day of the arrest at approximately 7:55 p.m., APD officers responded to Carver (Avenue) and Ashley (Street) in reference to the driver of a vehicle in the parking lot passed out behind the wheel with the doors locked, and a child less than 5 years of age in the vehicle. Gregson, the driver, was eventually awakened by the officers, McMann said.

“During the officer’s interaction with Gregson, they noticed synthetic cannabis (spice) was in plain view in the vehicle and easily accessible to the child,” McMann said. “The officers also noted that Gregson had a strong odor of alcohol about her breath and there was a cup in the cup holder containing an alcoholic beverage, and items used to consume narcotics. The child was able to exit the vehicle while the officers were on the way and walked a short distance away.”

Gregson was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
