Walnut Hill, Fla. man, a convicted felon, arrested Dec. 26 on DUI, receiving stolen property, firearm charges

A Walnut Hill, Fla. man was arrested Dec. 26 on driving under the influence, receiving stolen property and firearm charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Deaundra Thames, 47, was arrested and charged with DUI, receiving stolen property II and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.

McMann said at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Thursday, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Medical Park Drive in reference to a vehicle displaying an expired tag. The officer then made contact with the driver, Thames.

“During the officers’ interaction with Thames, they noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage about his breath,” McMann said. “Thames agreed to field sobriety tests, which he failed. Thames was placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a firearm that had been reported stolen from out of state.”

McMann said Thames is a convicted felon from Florida, and is designated as a person forbidden to possess firearms.

Thames was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
