The Atmore area, including northwest Florida, is under an enhanced risk of severe weather late this afternoon and into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the NWS, storms began developing over southern Mississippi, and spread this afternoon and evening. The forecast was made late this morning.

Potential threats include 70-plus miles per hour winds, strong long track tornadoes and quarter size hail.

As soon as a warning is issued, shelter in place and do not go outside, according to the NWS.

There is also an elevated risk for flooding for the area after the recent rains.
