APD seeking information regarding shooting on Ashley Street

The Atmore Police Department is seeking information in regard to a shooting that occurred Dec. 30 on Ashley Street.

Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release that at approximately 11:13 p.m. on Monday, the APD received numerous phone calls of shots being fired near the 100 block of Ashley Street.

“Atmore (police) officers immediately responded, and found a male with a single gunshot to the lower extremity,” Brooks said. “ The male was transported by EMS to Atmore Community Hospital.”

Brooks said APD officers were advised the male was sitting in his car when the suspect(s) began firing into the vehicle with what is believed to be a high-powered rifle.

“Officers recovered approximately 20 .223 (caliber) shell casings from the scene,” he said.

Brooks said the name of the victim is not being released at this time.
