Escambia County School System officials announced Thursday that the system was notified Jan. 7 of a recent cyber security incident involving PowerSchool.

“The company has assured us that the incident is contained, and there is no evidence of ongoing unauthorized activity or operational disruptions,” ECSS officials said on their Facebook page. “Affected data may include sensitive personal information such as names and email addresses. Social security numbers were not involved. PowerSchool has implemented enhanced security measures, deactivated the compromised credentials, and offers credit monitoring and identity protection services for specific impacted individuals.”
Officials said ECSS is working with the Alabama State Department of Education and PowerSchool to communicate with families, educators and stakeholders.

Officials said they’ll provide additional updates as they get more information.
