Two Atmore men were arrested Jan. 15 on certain persons forbidden to possess firearms and possession of drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Curtis Hayes, 34, was charged with certain persons forbidden to possess firearms; and Lacarlos Barnes, 44, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said on Jan. 15 at approximately 11 p.m., an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plate displayed on Jack Springs Road.
“Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed a shotgun in the passenger seat with the passenger later identified as Hayes,” McMann said. “Hayes was detained and then arrested when it was discovered he had a prior domestic violence conviction.”
McMann said during the officers interaction with the driver, who later identified as Barnes, the officer discovered a small amount of methamphetamine and a glass pipe used to ingest narcotics.
Both were then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
