Bitter cold and a possibility of wintry precipitation is in the forecast for early next week, according to officials.
Escambia County EMA Director David Adams said there are multiple scenarios in play that may mean some wintry precipitation between Monday night and Wednesday.
“Please be aware of the conditions and prepare for possibly a longer commute Tuesday morning,” Adams said.
According to the National Weather Service, a strong cold front is going to push across the region on Saturday night. Behind it, arctic air will move into the area and linger through the middle of next week.
“We are also concerned about the potential for winter precipitation next Tuesday/Wednesday,” NWS Forecaster Rudy DiCarlo said. “Although the overall potential of winter precip has increased over the past 24 hours, there are still many unknowns at this point and the overall extent of impacts (if any) is of low confidence.”
According to the NWS, the lows on Monday through Wednesday mornings is going to drop well into the 20s. Lows in the teens can’t be ruled out well inland, according to officials.
Additionally, wind chills will drop into the lower teens, and potentially the single digits in some locations.
The second impact is the winter storm potential.
According to the NWS, there is a potential for a wintry mix that could bring impacts to the area Tuesday into Wednesday. It’s too early to determine the extent of the threat or provide more specific details, forecasters said.
