Atmore man arrested Jan. 26 on domestic violence, obstruction, firearm charges

An Atmore man was arrested Jan. 26 on domestic violence, obstructing government operations, unlawful imprisonment and firearm charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Savion Martin, 22, was arrested and charged with domestic violence II assault, obstructing government operations, unlawful imprisonment I, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm and interference with a domestic violence emergency call.
McMann at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Sunday, APD officers responded to a residence on Harris Street in reference to a welfare check of a victim of domestic violence.
“When officers arrived on the scene they spoke to a male, later identified as Savion Martin, age 22, of Atmore, through the front door,” McMann said. “Martin refused to open the door. Officers had been notified that the victim had face timed the reporting party and appeared to be injured.”
McMann said officers then heard crying from inside the residence and pleas for help.
“The officers forced entry into the residence and took Martin into custody,” he said. “The victim was severely injured and was transported to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment. The officers learned through the investigation that Martin forcefully took the victim’s phone to keep the victim from calling for help. Martin was also in possession of a firearm. He has prior convictions for domestic violence.”
Martin was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
