Blue Devils fall 50-45 to W.S. Neal in area tournament first round, end season

Escambia County fell 50-45 to W.S. Neal Saturday in the first round of the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament in Atmore.
During the contest, the Blue Devils only had one bench player.
The Blue Eagles took advantage and kept the game close throughout. WSN led 14-13 after the first period, but ECHS went on a 9-2 run to end the first half and led 29-22 at the break.
ECHS then attacked the paint in the third period, going ahead 39-32 late.
However, WSN then put up a strong perimeter game, nailing back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to within one.
ECHS led 41-40 going into the fourth period.
No one scored during the first 4 minutes, and 33 seconds of the fourth period.
Escambia County’s Tai Henderson hit a lay up with 3:27 to go, and W.S. Neal’s Kam Arrington hit a 3-pointer to tie the game.
Samorion Clark and Sedrick Samuel hit a floater and 3-pointer, respectively, to give the Blue Eagles the lead for good.
WSN’s Jabrei Mackey hit two free throws with 11.9 seconds, and the Blue Eagles held on late.
Henderson led with 11 points, and Lamarrion Arnold added 10 for Escambia County.
Mackey led WSN with 18 points. Clark added 14 in the effort.
ECHS ended its season 12-8.
In girls action, the Lady Blue Devils beat WSN 63-4.
ECHS will face Jackson at 6 p.m. on Monday in the tournament finals.
