Atmore man arrested Feb. 13 on drug charges

An Atmore man was arrested Feb. 13 on drug charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Darren Knighten, 33, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on East Horner Street in reference to the vehicle displaying an expired license plate. The officer then contacted the driver, Knighten.

“During the officers interaction with Knighten, he noted suspicious behavior and requested consent to search the vehicle,” McMann said. “During the search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a small amount of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine and items that are commonly used to ingest narcotics.”

Knighten was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
