An Atmore man was arrested March 8 on attempting to elude a police officer and driving under the influence charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Jordan Lassitter, 29, was arrested and charged with attempting to elude a police officer and DUI.

McMann said at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, APD officers responded to the intersection of Church Street and Third Avenue in reference to someone unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle, later identified as Lassiter, as the vehicle was still moving forward.

“The officer was flagged down by a citizen when he arrived on the scene, and was informed the vehicle just left at a high rate of speed and the driver appeared to be impaired,” McMann said. “The officer observed the vehicle a short distance away, and activated his emergency blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. Lassitter accelerated at a high rate of speed to well over the posted 25 mph speed limit. Due to Lassitter’s total disregard for the safety of pedestrians and other vehicles, the officer terminated the pursuit.”

McMann said the officer was able to determine which street Lassitter turned on, and a second officer observed Lassitter pull into a driveway.

“Lassitter was taken into custody without further incident,” McMann said.

Lassitter was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
