Escambia County Commissioners rescinded one appointment to the Escambia County Healthcare Authority on Monday and appointed a new member to the board.
Previously, the commission approved the appointment of Sandy Hollinger to represent District 5 on the board.
District 5 Commissioner Karean Reynolds said it was brought to his attention that Hollinger was no longer a resident in the district.
As a result, the appointment of Justin Stabler was made to replace Hollinger.
“Mr. Stabler is a member of the (Poarch) Tribal Council and Courts,” Reynolds said. “He is a great ally for us and I believe he will serve the county well.”
Commissioners unanimously approved the appointment.
Also during Monday’s meeting, Brewton Physician Dr. Jimmy Adkisson said he admitted defeat in his efforts.
“I don’t have anything to say or anything to ask,” Adkisson said. “I am admitting my utter defeat in my attempt to help the citizens of Escambia County. I was told the reason I could get no help is because I don’t have any politics. I am here now — and will attend meetings quietly — to learn some politics.”
Adkisson, joined previously by other Brewton physicians, had attended several meetings of the commission to request assistance with manning the Escambia County Healthcare Authority with qualified physicians in an effort to manage healthcare in the county.
Adkisson’s request was considered, however the newest members of the ECHCA board appointed were not physicians.
