BOE approves flooring contract for A.C. Moore Primary, science textbooks for students

The Escambia County Board of Education approved a flooring contract for A.C. Moore Primary School and textbooks for students during its regular meeting on March 20.

The flooring contract was approved for Sun Flooring for the installation of new vinyl plank flooring paid out of A&T funds for:

  • A.C. Moore Primary School (seven) classrooms in the amount of $53,000;
  • A.C. Moore Primary cafeteria in the amount of $16,333; and,
  • Flomaton High School library in the amount of $31,303.

The textbook approvals were for science textbooks for grades K-5 from Publisher’s Warehouse for $218,902.50, to be paid from FY 25 Textbooks; grade 6-8 science textbooks from Publisher’s Warehouse for $130,821.60, to be paid from FY 24 Textbooks; grade 9-12 science textbooks from Publisher’s Warehouse for $207,577.80, to be paid from FY Textbooks/local/title funds; and for CTE textbooks for $6,966.90, to be paid from FY 25 Perkins Funds.

In other business, the board:

  • approved an out-of-state trip for Escambia County High School’s choir to attend “Hamilton” at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans, La. on April 17, 2025;
  • approved to table the 2025-26 Code of Conduct. The item will be tabled for 30 days;
  • approved the purchase of extended career exploration pack from Realityworks Inc. for $13,918.57, to be paid out of Middle Schools Innovation grant;
  • approved the 2025-26 Science Textbook and CTE Textbook adoption;
  • approved to contract with Cream Dozer Service Inc. for the demolition and debris removal of visitor-side bleachers at FHS for $32,000, to be paid out of A&T funds;
  • approved to contract with TH Educational Services LLC for ACT/ACAP education coaching services for FHS for $18,000, to be paid out of Title I;
  • approved to contract with Hammond and Hammond LLC for ACT/ACAP education coaching services for FHS for $18,000, to be paid out of Title I;
  • approved to contract with The Core Project Inc. for behavioral services for students with IEPs not to exceed an amount of $15,000;
  • renewed the appointment of Board Attorneys Broox Garrett and Kirk Garrett for Jan. 1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2025, with a $1,000 retainer fee;
  • approved a retainer fee for legal services to Hill, Hill, Carter, Franco, Cole and Black, P.C. for $5,000; and,
  • approved by recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Michele Colier that the principal contract for Toya McMillian, current principal of K-5 Alternative School, be non renewed effective June 30, 2025. According to the meeting minutes, the reasons for this recommendation are decreased morale and failure to perform duties in a satisfactory manner.
