An Atmore man was arrested March 14 on possession of drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Melvin Knight, 65, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said at approximately 6:25 p.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 21 in reference to the driver, Knight, failing to use a turn signal.
“While checking Knight’s driver license status, the officer discovered the status of Knight’s license was revoked,” McMann said. “When the officer began speaking with Knight about the revocation, the officer observed a crack pipe in Knights lap in plain view.”
McMann said the residue in the pipe was field tested, and the test revealed it was crack cocaine.
Knight was then transported to the Ecambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
