An Atmore man was arrested March 15 on possession of drugs and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Justin Vede, 42, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and open container of alcohol.
McMann said at approximately 3:55 p.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 21 in reference to the driver, Vede, for failing to wear his seat belt.
“While checking Knight’s driver license status, the officer discovered Vede did not have a driver license,” McMann said. “During the interaction with Vede, the officer noted suspicious behavior and requested consent to search the vehicle.”
McMann said the search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several dozen grams of kratom, items used to package narcotics and an open container of alcohol.
Vede was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
