Warrant arrest leads to 4 in custody on drugs, firearm charges

Four were arrested on possession of drugs and firearm charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Matthew McGhee, 35, of Atmore, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia; Brian Ledkins, 43, of Flomaton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana I, certain persons forbidden to possess firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia; Nina Simmons, 38, of McDavid, Fla., was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia; and Raven Hightower, 24, of Flomaton, was charged with possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said in a release that on April 9, at approximately 8:46 p.m., an APD narcotics agent and members of the department’s special response team executed a search warrant at 27037 Highway 31. He added that the agent obtained a search warrant to enter the residence ant place McGhee under arrest in reference to an outstanding warrant for escape I through the Escambia County, Ala. Sheriff’s Office.
“McGhee also was wanted for several violations he had accumulated after being placed into community corrections in reference to previous criminal charges,” McMann said.
McMann said the special response team forced entry into the residence after knocking, and announcing and took McGhee into custody.
“Upon entering the residence, the narcotics agent observed narcotics in plain view as well as three other subjects,” he said. “The agent obtained a second search warrant to search the property. Upon executing that search warrant, the agent discovered several dozen grams of marijuana, several grams of methamphetamine, hydrocodone pills, other substances that couldn’t be identified and were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to be tested. Also discovered were numerous items that are used to ingest narcotics and a firearm.”
McMann said all four were then transported to the ECSO’s detention center in Brewton.
