Bub Gideons on Monday announced his candidacy to run for election for the District 5 seat of the Atmore City Council.
Gideons said his slogan is simple: Bringing community to the council.
“I’m running because I believe in Atmore—our people, our history and our future,” Gideons said. “As a lifelong resident of this town, it’s always been my goal to serve and contribute in whatever way I can.”
Gideons has been involved in many projects over the years.
“Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to play a role in projects that help build a stronger, more connected community,” he said. “For example, I’m the founder of the Pride of Atmore, a project aimed at restoring the historic Strand Theatre and the Encore building (formerly the old hardware store). This effort is close to my heart because it’s about preserving our past while investing in our future—a place where all of us can come together, share experiences, and continue to grow.”
Additionally, Gideons was named Atmore’s Citizen of the Year in 2017, served as president of the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce in 2016 and recently was recognized as Favorite Community Volunteer in 2024.
“I also served as 2023-2024 council chair of the state Lions Clubs of Alabama, working with communities all across our state,” he said. “But no matter the title or the project, it all boils down to one thing: service. Whether it’s supporting our small businesses, volunteering at local events, or working alongside neighbors to address community needs, I’ve always strived to put Atmore first.”
Gideons said he’s running for city council because there’s still so much more work that can be done together.
“I’m not here to make promises I can’t keep, but I do promise to work hard, listen to your concerns, and lead with integrity and respect,” he said. “With your support, we can continue building a stronger, smarter and more united Atmore.”
The municipal election is Aug. 26, 2025, and Gideons said he’d be honored to have your vote.
“Let’s continue to make Atmore the best place to live, work and raise our families,” he said.
