An Atmore man was arrested April 20 on possession of drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Charlton Jones, 36, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said at approximately 11:28 p.m. on Easter Day, APD officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Jack Springs Road in reference to a domestic disturbance complaint. He added that as officers arrived on scene, they observed the subject, later identified as Jones, running away from the scene.
“After a brief search, the officer found Jones and took him into custody,” McMann said. “Upon taking Jones into custody, the officers found he was in possession of a glass pipe containing a clear crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.”
He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
McMann added that Jones was also wanted for two outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants with the APD, and a potential misdemeanor domestic violence related charge in reference to original call for service.
