Escambia County Law Day is slated to held May 1-2, at the county courthouse in Brewton.

Law Day is an annual event where students learn about the judicial system, and serve as jurors for an actual court case with consequences for the defendants.

Seniors from Escambia County High School, Flomaton High School, Atmore Christian School, Escambia Academy and homeschooled will attend on May 1. Seniors from T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal will attend on May 2.

John Milton Coxwell Jr., will speak on May 1, and retired Judge Charles Price will speak on May 2.

Selected jurors will hear a domestic violence case on Thursday, and then a felony possession case on Friday.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day in 1958 to celebrate the role of law in society and the legal system. The local program, which has been around since the early 1980s, allows seniors from area schools to participate in a real criminal trial as jurors.
