Atmore man, Century, Fla. woman arrested May 3 on drug, fugitive from justice charges

An Atmore man was arrested on possession of drug charges, and a Century, Fla. woman was arrested on fugitive from justice charges on May 3, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Donal Edwards, 52, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana II; and Joni Spates, 38, of Century, was arrested and charged with fugitive from justice.
McMann said on Saturday at approximately 5:10 a.m., APD officers responded to the Southland Motel in reference to a disturbance complaint.
“When the officers arrived on the scene they contacted Donal Edwards, age 52, of Atmore, as he was sitting in a vehicle,” McMann said. “During the officers’ interaction with Edwards, the officers noted that he appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.”
McMann said Edwards gave the officers consent to search the vehicle, and discovered a small amount of methamphetamine, marijuana and items used to ingest narcotics.
McMann said during the officers’ investigations they also made contact with Spates.
“Upon checking her identification, the officers discovered she had outstanding warrants for her arrest through the Escambia County, Fla. Sheriffs Office,” he said.
Both transported to the Escambia County, Ala. Detention Center. Spates is awaiting extradition back to Escambia County, Fla.
