The Strengthen Alabama Homes program announced recently that it’s now offering grants in Escambia County.
The grant offerings will open at 9 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2025. The grants are $10,000 toward a fortified roof, according to officials.
According to the Strengthen Alabama Homes website, this is the first time the program has been offered to other counties besides Mobile and Baldwin counties since 2015.
Residents in Jefferson and Tuscaloosa counties are also being offered the program.
Strengthen Alabama Homes is a program of the Alabama Department of Insurance. SAH provides grants to residents of Baldwin and Mobile Counties in Alabama for residential wind mitigation on existing, owner occupied, single-family homes. Funding for this program comes from the insurance industry in Alabama and is not funded from the state’s general budget, nor is it tied to a federally funded program.
The mitigation standard adopted by the Strengthen Alabama Homes program is known as the FORTIFIED Home program and it was developed by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS). To receive this grant, you must reach the IBHS FORTIFIED Roof or Silver standard. Learn more about FORTIFIED by visiting fortifiedhome.org.
