An Atmore woman was arrested on possession of drugs and assault charges May 22, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Sherry Avery, 45, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana II, possession of drug paraphernalia and assault III.
McMann said on Thursday at approximately 9:10 (no a.m. or p.m. listed), APD officers responded to a residence in the 900block of East Horner Street in reference to a disturbance.
“When officers arrived on the scene, they contacted the victim who had injuries to his face,” McMann said. “Officers then contacted the suspect, who was later identified as Sherry Avery, age 45, of Atmore. During the officer’s interaction with Avery, they noticed she was acting strangely and seemed to be under the influence of narcotics.”
McMann said officers also discovered she was in possession of a small amount of synthetic cannabis (spice), a small amount of marijuana and items used to ingest narcotics.
She was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
