Two men have been arrested on attempted murder charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that James A. Johnson, 24, of Atmore, has been charged with attempted murder an felony fleeing a law enforcement officer; and Terry Clark, 24, of Flomaton, was arrested on May 24 on a warrant for attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

McMann said Johnson turned himself in after allegedly firing multiple shots.

McMann said on May 21 at approximately 7 p.m., APD officers responded to the area of Sowell Avenue and Trout Street in reference to multiple shots fired. He added that the victim and witnesses provided the dispatcher a description of a vehicle fleeing from the area.

“An Atmore police officer responding to the scene of the shooting observed the vehicle leaving the area, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle,” McMann said. “The officer made eye contact with the driver, who he was personally familiar with, and identified him Johnson. Johnson accelerated at a high rate of speed to 100 miles per hour on Carver Avenue. The officer lost sight of Johnson for a brief period of time before locating the vehicle abandoned at a residence.”

McMann said upon interviewing the victim, the victim positively identified Johnson as the individual who was allegedly shooting at the vehicle they were driving. Officers processed the scene and recovered 27 spent shell casings from two different caliber firearms, he added.

Johnson was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

Investigators identified Clark as the other person who was allegedly involved in the shooting.

Clark was also transported to the detention center
