An Atmore man was arrested May 31 on assault and domestic violence charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Daygen Slate, 18, was charged with assault domestic violence strangulation or suffocation and interference with a domestic violence emergency call.
McMann said at approximately 9:25 a.m. on Saturday, APD officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Stokely Court in reference to a domestic violence incident.
“While the officers were en route to the scene, the suspect, who was later identified as Slate, left the scene in a vehicle,” McMann said. “An officer responding to the call conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle a short distance from the residence, and took Slate into custody.”
McMann said the officers, through their investigation, were able to determine that Slate allegedly choked the victim and took the victim’s cell phone while the victim was speaking with the dispatcher.
Slate was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
