City adopts resolution electing Lassiter to fill mayor’s vacancy

The Atmore City Council adopted a resolution electing Shawn Lassiter to fill the mayor’s vacancy during a special-called meeting on Monday.
The resolution, 2025-11, was adopted by roll vote.
Lassiter is fulfilling the remainder of former Mayor Jim Staff’s term.
In other business, the council:
- adopted resolution 2025-10, accepting Staff’s resignation; and,
- approved ordinance 03-2025, authorizing the acting mayor (Lassiter) to perform the duties of part time superintendent of West Escambia Utilities.
Municipal Judge Karean Reynolds congratulated Lassiter, adding that he looks forward to working with him in the future, and helping make a difference in the community.
