The Escambia County Board of Education announced Tuesday that Dr. Michele W. Collier, superintendent of Escambia County Schools, has been named District 1 Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA).
District 1 includes Baldwin, Mobile, Saraland, Satsuma, Chickasaw, Butler, Conecuh, Covington, and Escambia counties.
“I am honored and thankful to represent District 1, which includes so many exceptional communities and educational leaders,” Collier said. “This recognition by my peers is deeply meaningful, and I promise to do my best to represent our district with integrity, passion and purpose. I’m also thankful for the team that we have in Escambia that serves and supports our schools. We have incredible leaders, teachers, staff and students. This recognition is not just mine—it is a testament to the incredible work happening across Escambia County Schools, and I am truly excited to celebrate this honor on behalf of our district.”
Collier has served as superintendent of Escambia County Schools since 2024, leading initiatives focused on instruction, reading challenges for K-8 students, student safety, workforce development and community engagement.
The SSA Superintendent of the Year program recognizes leadership among Alabama’s school superintendents. As a District 1 honoree, Collier is now eligible to be considered for Alabama’s Superintendent of the Year.
