Ann Barrineau Murray, 86, of Tallahassee, Fla., died on May 18, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

Ann was born in Atmore on Jan. 25, 1939 to James A. Barrineau and Frances Wilkinson Barrineau.
As a military dependent, she lived in various stateside locations and cherished growing up in Japan and Germany. She married a naval aviator in 1961 and was an active military spouse.
She was a longtime resident of Pensacola, Fla., before moving to Tallahassee in 2015.
Ann was a proud Army brat, Navy wife, Air Force mother and Army grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Pensacola. As an Army dependent, she was a graduate of Frankfurt American High School in West Germany in 1957. She attended Pensacola Junior College, where she was editor of the college newspaper and was a weekly on-air talent at WBSR radio. She transferred in her junior year to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, where she received bachelor’s degrees in both history and secondary education in 1961.
She taught high school history in Pensacola at Woodham High School in the late 1960s, and at Escambia High School in the late 1980s.
She loved to read and listen to jazz, especially Sarah Vaughn. She was also a sports fanatic who loved college football season. The Atlanta Braves knew no finer fan.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Capt. Roger Murray U.S. Navy (Ret.); her son, Lt. Col. Steve Murray U.S. Air Force (Ret.) (Beth), of Tallahassee; and her brother, Col. James A. Barrineau U.S. Army (Ret.) (Anna), of Burke, Va.
Ann has one grandchild, 2nd Lt. Ryan Murray U.S. Army (Kaitlyn), of Sarasota, Fla.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral service begins at noon on Wed., May 28, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Dr. Geoffrey Lentz serving as officiant.
Ann will be privately laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to the Florida Veterans Foundation, 2601 S. Blair Stone Rd., Tallahassee, FL, 32399.
