Bob Turk announced his candidacy for the District 1 seat of the Atmore City Council on June 16.

“My name is Bob Turk, and I was born and raised right here in Atmore — back when kids could walk the neighborhood without fear and neighbors looked out for one another,” Turk said. “I love this city, and like many of you, I’m concerned about some of things going on such as the recent jump in crime rate and shootings. Crime has become a near-daily issue and we need to take that very seriously.”

Turk said as he and his wife of 45 years began thinking about retiring, and where they wanted to live, Atmore was at the top of the list.

“We made the move back home,” he said. “After working for 38 years in several management positions with two major corporations, I decided to retire in 2019.

“After enjoying retirement for a few years, I felt a need to go back to work and started searching for what I wanted to do and wound up driving a school bus,” he said. “After a little over two years, I can honestly say it’s the most rewarding job I’ve ever had.”

Turk said right now, he doesn’t have all the answers.

“But I’m committed to asking the difficult questions, listening to you and fighting every day to get results for District 1 and the entire city of Atmore,” Turk said. “Let’s work together and be proud of the improvements that we’ve achieved and continue to build a better Atmore for all of us.”
