An Atmore man was arrested June 22 on possession of drug charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Dante Haynes, 46, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

McMann said at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Carver Avenue in reference to a vehicle displaying an expired license plate.

“During the interaction with the driver, who was later identified as Dante Haynes, age 46, of Atmore, the officer noted suspicious behavior,” McMann said. “A K-9 was deployed and alerted on the vehicle.”

McMann said while conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers discovered a small amount of crack cocaine.

Haynes was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
