A 17-year-old from Atmore passed away due to injuries from a shooting that occurred on Carver Avenue near 18^th Avenue early this morning, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that on June 24 at approximately 1:50 a.m., officers responded to Atmore Community Hospital in reference to gunshot victims.

“Officers discovered Gabriel (Gabe) Hooks, 17, of Atmore, passed away due to his injuries,” McMann said. “A second victim was flown to a trauma center. The injuries appear to be non-life threatening.”
McMann said responding officers learned the shooting occurred on Carver Avenue near 18^th Avenue.

“Investigators processed the crime scene, and recovered dozens of spent shell casings,” he said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
