Evergreen man arrested on murder charges for early-morning shooting Tuesday on Carver Avenue

An Evergreen man was arrested on murder charges, and additional arrests are forthcoming after the shooting that occurred on Carver Avenue near 18th Avenue early Tuesday morning, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Tyler Hall, 22, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

According to Advance archives, McMann said in a release that on June 24 at approximately 1:50 a.m., officers responded to Atmore Community Hospital in reference to gunshot victims.

“Officers discovered Gabriel (Gabe) Hooks, 17, of Atmore, passed away due to his injuries,” McMann said. “A second victim was flown to a trauma center. The injuries appear to be non-life threatening.”

Both victims were transported by private vehicle to the hospital.
McMann said responding officers learned the shooting occurred on Carver Avenue near 18th Avenue.

“Investigators processed the crime scene, and recovered dozens of spent shell casings,” he said.

McMann said the investigation revealed that a group of people met on Carver Avenue near 18th Avenue for a car race.

Gunfire erupted at the completion of the race after the winners collected their money, he added.

McMann said Hall was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
