Atmore man charged with murder of 2 others

An Atmore man has been charged for the murder of two others, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Dexter Adams, 18, has been charged for the murders of Joe Jones Jr. and Juwan McNeal. The double homicide occurred on Dec. 8, 2024.
At present, Adams is in the Escambia County Detention Center for other shootings in Atmore.
According to Advance archives, on Dec. 8 at approximately 8:15 p.m., APD officers responded to a vacant residence on East Ashley Street in reference to a person shot.
“When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two people sitting in a vehicle that had been shot multiple times,” McMann said. “They both passed away due to their injuries.”
McMann said Adams was developed as a suspect through a combination of forensic evidence and digital evidence. He added that additional arrests are possible.
According to Advance archives, Adams was charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and discharging a firearm into an unoccupied building. McMann said on May 7, 2025 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Atmore police officers responded to North Main and Howard Street in reference to shots fired into a passing vehicle. The Wing and Burger Box restaurant was also struck by gunfire. No one was injured.
McMann said officers recovered 47 spent shell casings from two different caliber firearms. Investigators were able to identify the suspects during the course of the investigation.
