EA crushes Clarke

Escambia Academy’s seniors went out on a high note last Friday as the Cougars of Canoe destroyed the Clarke Prep Gators 73-22 on Senior Night at EA.

The Cougars dominated the Gators on both ends of the court never trailing at any point of the contest that they won by 51 points.

In the first quarter, Escambia Academy held the Gators off of the scoreboard with strong defense, as they built an 11-0 lead.

The Gators did not get on the scoreboard until the second quarter began, but only managed six points in the period with the Cougars gaining a 30-6 by halftime.

After the break, EA continued its pace increasing their scoring in the final two quarters.

The Cougars pushed their lead to 37 points in the third quarter beating the Gators on the scoreboard 20-13.

Leading 50-13, EA finished off their home victory with an impressive 23-9 run that capped off the 73-22 win.

Darren McGhee led the way for the Cougars with a double-double recording 25 points and 15 rebounds in the win, with Brett Helton chipping in 12 points and four steals.

Garrett Kirk posted seven points and eight rebounds for Escambia Academy.

Cougar Jaylen Henry added six points in the win and also had five assists and five steals, while Brandon Goddard scored six points to go along with three rebounds and two assists.

Robert Whatley and Jacob Dean scored four points for the Cougars. Whatley posted nine rebounds and Dean had six.

Rounding out the scoring for EA were Dillon Anderson (three points and two assists), Blake Quimby (two points and six rebounds), Bryant Lambert (two points and one rebound).

In junior varsity action, the Escambia Academy Cougars earned another win this time beating the Clarke Prep Gators 39-16 last Friday in Canoe.

The Cougars overwhelmed the Gators for four quarters and held the lead from beginning to end.

The Cougars jumped out in front of the Gators 10-4 in the first quarter, and followed up with a 6-3 run in the second quarter. At halftime, EA led 16-7.

Following halftime, the Cougars kept up their scoring pace on their way to the win.

In the third quarter, the Cougars outscored Clarke Prep 11-2 to move into the fourth quarter leading 27-9.

With a comfortable lead, EA cruised in the final eight minutes beating the Gators 12-7 in the quarter and earned the 23-point win.
Cougar Garrett Kirk led his team in the win posting 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Kevin Gumapac added five points, three rebounds and three steals, while Jake Leachman scored four points to go along with four rebounds and three steals.

Scott Brantley, Will Lambert, Eli Godwin and Ryan Johnson all scored three points in the victory. Blake Allen and Kanoia Gumapac finished off the scoring with two points each.
