‘Market in the Park’ planned for Saturday

Vendors display fresh vegetables, fruits, cut flowers and honey at Market in the Park.

Last year the Atmore Chamber of Commerce sponsored a series of “Market in the Park” events and this year there are plans to continue the markets.

“We had such success last year, we decided to do it again,” said Sheryl Vickery, director of the Atmore Chamber of Commerce. “There’s nothing like locally grown food, from the field to the table.”

The plans call for the first “Market in the Park” to take place on Saturday with additional markets on July 14, and Aug. 11 in the park at First National Bank and Trust from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

This market is the chance for local growers to be able to sell their produce to local buyers. Not only will there be vegetables and fruits, but cut flowers, honey, syrup and baked goods will also be sold. There will be kids activities to keep the children happy while Mom shops, but there will be various demonstrations starting at 9 a.m.

“We have lined up some good, but short demonstrations,” Vickery said. “We hope to make these markets a regular event every year, but we need the support of our local growers and shoppers.”
