Theft try nets arrest

A Century man with a history of criminal activity is back in jail in Pensacola after authorities arrested him for allegedly tampering with power poles in Walnut Hill in an effort to steal copper.

Leland David Kite, Jr., 44, of 7611 Jefferson Avenue in Century, was taken into custody Tuesday after deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department discovered his pick-up truck parked near Pine Forrest Road. In his vehicle deputies found tools and copper wiring and other materials consistent with the items torn from the ground beneath a total of 10 power poles.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department,  Kite was charged with criminal mischief – damage to property, larceny and a traffic violation. As of Friday, Kite remained in the Pensacola jail on no bond.
