Police warn of phone scamPublished 10:10pm Friday, December 28, 2012
Local law enforcement officials are warning area residents of a telephone scam that is becoming more and more frequent.
Scott Walden, an agent with the 21st Judicial Task Force, said scammers have been calling local residents, particuarly senior citizens, and informing them they have won either cash or a vehicle. Walden said the people behind the calls will then inform the caller that they must first send different amounts of money in order to pay the taxes on the prize.
“If someone tell you they need money for money, it’s a scam,” Walden said.
